Just finished the book and can say it was a fantastic read. Main characters are impressively detailed in the story and the backdrop could be your hometown.
I am looking forward to seeing what Jim Hicks has "Huck" secure, conquer or soothe in his next book. Keep up the good work.
I wish I could get everyone in the U.S.A. to read this book. I can only hope it isn't prophetic, but these days you have to admit to the possibilities. I loved the main character, Huck, and his humble nature. A friend gave me this book (she is related to the author) after we had a conversation about what to do in the event of a massive (controlled) power outage. I am very impressed with this book, and I cannot wait to read the next one.
This book strikes very close to home in that it really opens your eyes to the possibilities of what could easily happen to our republic, if taken for granted and allowed to fall to other influences, whether outside or from within. I liked Huck's character and his no-nonsense band of patriots. They represent the heart of America and have the never-surrender attitude that true Americans still carry. Loved the names of characters as well, especially the sci-fi references. Every American should read this.
Fantastic read! I spent most of 20 years in the Special Ops world, "the mission of the US Army Special Forces is to train and equip indigenous troops"; so can categorically say that Mr. Hicks has obviously done his research, not only is the book a spellbinding adventure, but it is realistic and depicts the abject terror of a firefight, the exhilaration of an ambush gone right and the overwhelming sense of horror when you are the one caught in the kill zone. I found myself in Huck's shoes, E&E'ing out of the area trying to get back to a safe house; experiencing the continuous feeling of mistrust and suspicion that comes with having to trust an asset; and reducing those that are trying to take my FREEDOM to less than human so I could look at them through the cross hairs of my reticle. Again, a Fantastic Read, I am waiting with anticipation for the next installment
This is a great read. Thank goodness there are more books to come. It's not over yet. I found myself stocking the pantry just in case.
